Additional Information:

Preferred Academic Background

Students in Social Science, Communication, Information Technology, Education, or related programs may be especially well aligned; however, eligibility is not limited to these majors unless otherwise required by the department.

Scope of Ambassador Role

Student Onboarding Ambassadors provide general information, peer navigation, wayfinding, and referrals. They do not provide academic advising, make financial-aid eligibility determinations, interpret student accounts, approve registration decisions, or make other professional or account-specific determinations. Questions requiring interpretation or decision-making must be referred to the appropriate RCC professional staff member.

Federal Work-Study Compliance Notes

  • This FWS assignment is part-time, on-campus student employment and is contingent upon continued Federal Work-Study eligibility and available award funding.
  • FWS students may perform only the duties identified for the FWS assignment and approved by the supervisor; Learn & Earn responsibilities are not interchangeable with FWS duties.
  • Students and supervisors are responsible for monitoring scheduled hours so the student does not exceed the approved FWS award or institutional work-hour limits.
  • Timesheets must accurately reflect hours actually worked and be approved by the designated supervisor through the College’s approved timekeeping process.

Student Learning & Professional Development Outcomes

  • Develop peer-support, customer-service, and professional communication skills.
  • Build working knowledge of RCC student-service processes, campus resources, and QLess.
  • Strengthen problem-solving, referral, teamwork, and student-engagement skills.
  • Develop experience managing front-facing student traffic and service environments.
  • Gain career-relevant exposure to admissions, enrollment services, student affairs, communications, and higher education.

Funding & Scheduling Structure

Three Student Onboarding Ambassador placements are authorized through Federal Work-Study for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Assignments are on campus in the Solution Center/Student Commons and are scheduled around academic commitments and department needs. Students may work no more than 18.5 hours per week.

Supervision & Performance

The Student Onboarding Ambassador reports to Omesa Spencer, Administrative Assistant, and works in coordination with Solution Center leadership and designated staff. Students receive training on QLess, campus resources, service boundaries, referrals, customer service, and department procedures, along with regular supervision and feedback.

Advancement

Strong performers may become candidates for future advanced ambassador, peer leadership, admissions, enrollment services, student-success, or project-support positions when available.
