Job summary

UNC Health Care System is offering a Student Nurse Extern I position in the Hillsborough Campus Rehab unit. The role is a temporary full-time assignment, 36 hours per week, onsite, with a pay rate of $18.00 per hour.

You will work under an RN partner, gaining hands-on experience in patient care within a supportive team. Requirements include enrollment in an accredited nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months, a High School Diploma/GED, NC Nursing Assistant I certification,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months time from the start of student nurse externship.
• Nursing Assistant I certification in North Carolina and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required/listed.
• No prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports significant changes to a registered nurse or provider.
• Assists with admission, orientation, and discharge of patients.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care within the Nursing Assistant I scope, including vital signs, hygiene, and activities of daily living.
• Supports care activities and collaborates with the RN during procedures and emergencies.
• Maintains a clean work area, stocks supplies, and contributes to patient safety and education.
