Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I to join the patient care team under RN supervision. This role provides hands-on exposure in a hospital/clinic setting to translate nursing education into direct care experiences.

Eligible students are enrolled in an accredited nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months and must meet NC nursing assistant and BLS requirements. Work is onsite with a standard 36-hour weekly schedule and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
• Basic computer skills for charting and documentation.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Observe, collect and document patient information; report changes to a nurse.
• Assist with routine patient care under RN supervision.
• Support care activities including vitals, hygiene, and mobility assistance.
• Participate in patient and family education under supervision.
• Assist in units with setup, supply stocking and basic clerical tasks.
