Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill is accepting applications for a Student Nurse Extern I in the Cardiology Oncology Stepdown Unit (COSU). The position supports RN partners on a 36-hour work week with rotating shifts, providing bedside care and patient/family education under supervision.

Ideal candidates are prelicensure nursing students enrolled in an accredited program with anticipated graduation within 12 months and current Nursing Assistant I eligibility plus BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Nursing Assistant I listed and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports changes to RN or provider.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides care including vital signs, height/weight, wound care, and activities of daily living.
• Supports teaching and documentation of patient instructions.
• Assists in examinations, procedure support, and equipment needs.
