Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I for a temporary program running May 24 to July 31, 2027 in Chapel Hill, NC. The extern will learn under an RN partner and function within the Nursing Assistant I scope in a patient care team setting.

Qualifications

Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in patient care.

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; assist with transfers.
Frequent standing and walking.
CPR may be required.

Responsibilities

Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports changes promptly.
Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
Provides direct and indirect patient care per plan of care, including vital signs and basic nursing tasks.
Supports routine examinations and helps procure equipment and supplies during procedures or emergencies.
Assists in psychiatric settings with behavior modification plans, safety monitoring, and de-escalation as needed.
