UNC Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I to join the clinical team in Chapel Hill, NC for May 24 – July 31, 2027. The extern will work with an RN partner within the Nursing Assistant I scope of practice, gaining hands-on experience in a hospital, clinic, or home health setting.

Responsibilities include patient observation, assistance with admissions and discharges, direct and indirect patient care, and collaboration with health care teams.

Formación

• High school diploma or GED required; current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start date.
• Listed Nursing Assistant I with North Carolina DHHS.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written).
• Basic computer skills and ability to organize and prioritize patient care tasks.

Responsabilidades

• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes to a RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care and treatments per plan of care, including vital signs, specimen collection, wound care, and basic hygiene activities.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living (ADLs) under supervision.
• Assist with routine examinations, procedures, and equipment procurement in emergencies.
• Support teaching to patients as directed by the RN or provider.
• In psychiatric settings, support patients with orientation, therapy, de-escalation, and safety monitoring.
