UNC Health seeks a Student Nurse Extern I for the 2027 session in Chapel Hill, NC. You will work as part of the patient care team under RN supervision, gaining hands-on experience across departments while developing nursing competencies.

The program runs May 24 – July 31, 2027 and involves direct patient care, observation, and learning activities aligned with your nursing education. Employment is temporary full-time with varied schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Nursing Assistant I certification with North Carolina DHHS.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fluent English; ability to organize and prioritize patient care and maintain unit competencies.

Responsabilités

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families with admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care per plan of care: vital signs, wound care, and activities of daily living.
• Provide indirect care: clean/stock area, transport supplies, assist in orientation of new staff and students.
• Reinforce patient education and assist in routine examinations and procedures.
• In psychiatric settings, assist with orientation, behavior plans, and de-escalation.
