Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a Financial Counselor to guide students and families on financial aid options, eligibility, and payment strategies, collaborating with academic advisors to support persistence to graduation.

The role emphasizes a holistic counseling approach, direct student contact via appointments and calls, and knowledge of university policies; training is provided, with a hybrid work arrangement up to 2 remote days per week.

Competenze

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of training, education or experience.
• Experience in student financial services, customer service, or another relevant field.
• Quantitative and analytical skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to project a positive image of the University and the office at all times.
• Ability to explain complex concepts in clear language.
• Ability to support UNIV courses related to financial aid literacy.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Counseling, Student Services, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• Experience in school/college counseling or financial aid activities preferred.
• Bilingual ability in Spanish, Arabic, or Mandarin Chinese preferred.

Mansioni

• Advise and counsel students and parents about financial aid programs and eligibility.
• Assist with holistic counseling and case management for students and families.
• Contact students via appointments, walk-ins, phone, and other platforms.
• Provide information about all student financial aid programs and procedures.
• Discuss confidential data and advise on impact to aid eligibility.
• Collaborate with academic advisors to support Satisfactory Academic Progress for aid.
• Coordinate with other university offices and external lenders or agencies as needed.
