Job summary

Barr Engineering, a respected structural engineering consultancy in Minneapolis, seeks a senior civil/structural engineer to lead foundation and steel/RC design for heavy industrial projects. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis, including structural analysis and steel/concrete design.
• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• PE certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Revit, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica, Advanced Steel, or similar.
• Current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Ability to work on rough terrain and industrial sites; travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Support Barr’s structural engineering group on heavy industrial sites including power plants and refineries.
• Perform foundation and structural analysis and modeling for steel, reinforced concrete, and other structures.
• Conduct field inspections and data collection; document existing conditions.
• Develop plans, specifications, and design documentation; write technical reports.
• Review submittals and respond to field questions to support construction activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers and project managers; travel as required.

Job description

• Support Barr’s structural engineering group on heavy industrial sites, including power plants, manufacturing facilities, refineries, and mining facilities
• Perform foundation and structural analysis
• Conduct field inspections and field data collection
• Develop plans and specifications
• Write technical reports
• Support construction activities by responding to field questions and reviewing submittals
• Perform engineering calculations and modeling for steel, reinforced concrete, walls, foundations, and other industrial and energy-related structures
• Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation
• Contribute to project reports and help develop cost estimates
• Participate in site visits and inspections to document existing conditions and observe construction activities
• Help ensure compliance with design intent
• Use word-processing, spreadsheet, and structural engineering software to support project tasks and team collaboration
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers and project managers in a professional consulting environment
• Travel periodically for field assignments

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis, including structural analysis and steel and concrete design
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) certified or ability to obtain within one year
• Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Revit, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica, Advanced Steel, RISA 3D, or MathCAD
• Current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship by Barr now or in the future
• Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation in rough terrain, industrial facilities, construction sites, and rural outdoor sites
• Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs, with up to 30% travel and fieldwork possible
• Helpful but not required: 8+ years of related work experience
• Helpful but not required: Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering
