Job summary

Jobtailor in North Carolina seeks a Civil/Structural Engineer with PE to lead analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and other structures. You will manage design efforts for small to moderate projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger tasks.

Responsibilities include producing detailed designs, guiding clients, mentoring staff, and ensuring quality control across multidisciplinary teams. Travel up to 10% and commitment to sustainable design are expected.

Qualifications

BS degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering (or equivalent).
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Minimum 2 years of experience in building design consulting.
Proficiency with BIM software and structural design/analysis tools.
Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to train/mentor staff.
Willingness to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.

Support consulting-project execution as part of a project team.
Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
Document design decisions and client instructions.
Monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expended.
Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions.
Provide in-process design reviews of structural systems, calculations, and specifications.
Implement quality-control processes.
Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and structural engineering best practices.
Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
Support projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.
Work on public-sector, education, healthcare, multifamily, and commercial projects across the Southeast.
Contribute to sustainable design goals, including SE2050.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
2 years of experience minimum required in the building design consulting industry
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills, including mechanics and materials, load paths, and structural design standards for steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and structural engineering design and analysis software
Proficiency in BIM software
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
