Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to provide structural design and technical leadership for heavy industrial sites in Minnesota. You will perform foundation and structural analyses, develop plans, drawings, specifications, and design documentation, and supervise field inspections to ensure adherence to the design intent.

With 10+ years of experience and a PE/SE preferred, you will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and travel up to 30% for field

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (steel and concrete design)
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• PE certification or ability to obtain within one year
• Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Revit, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica, Advanced Steel, RISA 3D, or MathCAD
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• U.S. work authorization without sponsorship (Barr)
• Ability to work in rough terrain and industrial sites with travel readiness
• Desirable: 15+ years, SE license, 3D software like Revit, and project management skills

Responsibilities

• Provide structural design and technical expertise for heavy industrial sites including power plants, manufacturing, refinery, and mining facilities


• Perform foundation and structural analysis


• Conduct field inspections and collect field data


• Develop engineering plans, drawings, specifications, and design documentation


• Write technical reports and contribute to project reports


• Support construction activities by responding to field questions and reviewing submittals


• Prepare engineering calculations and models for steel, reinforced concrete, walls, and foundations


• Help develop project schedules and cost estimates


• Monitor and manage structural teams to meet schedule and budget commitments


• Develop junior team members through mentoring and skill-building


• Participate in site visits and inspections to document existing conditions and observe construction


• Ensure construction compliance with design intent


• Use structural engineering and office software to support project tasks and collaboration


• Provide senior leadership and communicate with project leaders on multidisciplinary teams


• Travel for field assignments, with up to 30% travel and fieldwork possible on occasion

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis, including structural analysis and steel and concrete design


• 10+ years of relevant experience


• Professional Engineer (PE) certified or ability to obtain within one year


• Experience with AutoCAD, Excel, Revit, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica, Advanced Steel, RISA 3D, or MathCAD


• Current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record


• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future


• Ability to work in rough terrain, construction, manufacturing, or rural outdoor sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other industrial-facility conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation


• Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs


• Helpful but not required: 15+ years of related work experience, Licensed Structural Engineer (SE), 3D software experience such as Revit, consulting industry experience, and project organization and management skills
