Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Chicago seeks a structural engineer to work on power transmission projects, focusing on materials behavior, structural analysis, and reinforced concrete design. You will collaborate with clients, PMs, and vendors to develop designs, calculations, and specifications for substation upgrades.

The role requires a BSCE/MSCE from an ABET-accredited program and 3+ years of experience, with travel to client sites for design reviews and field verification.

Qualifications

• BSCE or MSCE from ABET-accredited program with strong background in materials behavior, structural analysis, steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
• Three or more years as practicing structural engineer, preferably in substation design and upgrades.
• Ability to communicate with clients with appropriate level of technical detail.
• Ability to conduct site walks and attend scoping meetings as needed.
• Experience writing and supporting documentation for structural calculations.
• Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve a wide range of structural engineering issues.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
• Develop integrated designs and supporting calculations.
• Coordinate with clients, project managers, and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
• Review work by others, including calculations and drawings.
• Travel to client and vendor sites for reviews and field verification.
