Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced structural engineer to work on power transmission modifications, upgrades, and substations. You will perform detailed analysis, develop steel and concrete designs, and create calculations and specifications for client reviews.

You will interface with clients, prepare design documents, and guide teams through reviews while traveling to site locations as needed. The role emphasizes collaboration, rigorous engineering, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• BSCE or MSCE from ABET- accredited program with strong materials behavior, structural analysis, steel and concrete design.
• 10+ years as a practicing structural engineer, preferably substation related.
• Ability to communicate with clients with appropriate technical detail.
• Willingness to travel to client sites for scoping and reviews.
• Experience writing and supporting structural calculations and drawings.
• Ability to manage budgets and schedules with accuracy.
• Knowledge of design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide range of structural engineering issues.
• Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
• Develop integrated structural designs and supporting calculations.
• Interface with clients and communicate technical information.
• Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
• Perform independent reviews of others' work, including calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and suppliers for complete, timely designs.
• Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
• Engage in peer-learning via Communities of Practice.
