Job summary

The City of North Myrtle Beach is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to lead a crew in the construction and maintenance of streets and drainage systems. Under limited supervision, you will supervise daily assignments, ensure equipment maintenance, and oversee pothole patching, pipe placement, and roadwork while upholding safety and reporting standards.

You must be able to operate a variety of heavy machinery and lift substantial weights, with on-call availability.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or GED.
• Experience: Two (2) years experience in light to heavy equipment operation.
• Certifications: CDL required.
• Preferred: South Carolina pesticide applicator certification.

Responsibilities

• Supervises daily assigned Heavy Equipment Operator(s), Motor Equipment Operator(s), and Trades Worker(s).
• Assists superintendent and supervisor with training, instructing, planning and assigning work.
• Maintains standards, coordinates activities, and recommends transfers/promotions.
• Ensures equipment is properly maintained and ready for operation.
• Oversees asphalt repairs, pothole patching, and concrete/pipe work as needed.
• Operates paver, vactor trucks, backhoes, loaders, tractors, and other heavy equipment.
• Completes daily/weekly records, and reviews plans and work orders.
• Enforces department safety rules and regulations.
