Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Drainage Operations and Maintenance Assistant to support routine maintenance of storm drainage infrastructure under supervision. Tasks include equipment maintenance, traffic control, concrete work, landscaping, and erosion control in creek channels and open waterways.

You will participate in on-the-job training, possibly obtain a CDL, and work daytime hours with potential after-hours calls during weather events.

Qualifications

• Six months of maintenance, construction, or concrete experience.
• Valid Class C Driver's License required.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Ability to read and follow written, oral and online instructions and log data.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative equipment maintenance and minor repairs to ensure proper operating conditions.
• Operate hand tools and heavy equipment as required.
• Perform traffic control at job sites and set up safety barriers.
• Construct concrete forms and grade bedding, pour concrete, and place materials for repairs.
• Landscape maintenance including mowing, seeding, erosion control.
• Work in storm water management facilities and open waterways/erosion projects.
• Assist during emergencies and after-hours work as needed.
• Prepare daily logs and inventory forms and participate in training to obtain CDL.
