Job summary

City of Austin seeks a maintenance worker to perform construction and inspection tasks for storm drainage systems under direct supervision. You will assist with construction and rehabilitation of storm drains, perform preventative maintenance on equipment, and support field crews during emergencies.

The role requires a valid Class C driver’s license, ability to work outdoors in varying weather, and the stamina to lift up to 90 pounds.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months experience in maintenance and/or construction and/or concrete work.
• Knowledge of TMUTCD provisions.
• Ability to read, write and follow written, oral and computerized instructions; log onto a computer.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
• Uses hand tools and operates gas/diesel/propane equipment.
• Performs traffic control at job sites with cones, signs and barricades.
• Builds concrete forms and installs structures including headwalls and walls.
• Performs landscape maintenance and erosion control.
• Provides support during emergencies and after-hours events.
