Job summary

The City of Austin is hiring a Drainage Operations and Maintenance Assistant to support the Open Waterways section in routine vegetation maintenance, mowing, and weed eating in creek channels. You will work under supervision in storm drainage projects and assist with emergency responses when needed.

Qualifications include six months of maintenance/construction experience and a valid Class C license. The position offers an essential role with predictable hours and rotating shifts during weather

Qualifications

• Six months experience in maintenance and/or construction.
• Valid Class C Driver's License with good driving record.
• Knowledge of TMUTCD provisions related to the job.
• Ability to read, write and follow written, oral and computerized instructions.
• Ability to establish effective communication with city employees and the public.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
• Operates and maintains gas/diesel/propane equipment and tools.
• Controls traffic at job sites with cones and signs; sets forms and guard rails.
• Builds forms, pours concrete, and lays bedding material for pipes.
• Performs landscape maintenance and erosion control in open waterways.
• Works in storm water management facilities and during emergencies.
• Prepares daily trip logs, inventory forms, and other records.
• Participates in on-the-job training to obtain a CDL.
