Job summary

MERS Missouri Goodwill is seeking an energetic Assistant General Manager for our Kansas City Store – Midtown. This hourly, full-time leadership role supports the Store Manager in operations, staff supervision, and delivering strong customer service to donors and shoppers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
• One year of management experience; prior Goodwill retail/warehouse preferred.
• Valid MO or IL driver's license and insurance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including customer service and teamwork.
• Leadership skills: decision-making, goal-setting, problem-solving; motivate staff and hold accountable.
• Comfort with registers, scheduling, and inventory management software.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in overseeing store operations, resources, and budgets to meet goals.
• Model core values and uphold safety, ethics, and quality within the store.
• Supervise, direct, and train staff and ensure they perform core duties.
• Provide superior customer service to donors and shoppers; de-escalate dissatisfaction quickly.
• Coach employees on performance, including discipline up to termination.
• Assign daily duties to achieve operational tasks and efficiency.
• Identify employees with potential for advancement and recommend them.
• Safeguard property and information; report theft or misconduct promptly.
• Read, follow, and enforce agency policies and values.
• Arrange staffing; manage replacements; audit and approve payroll.
• Eliminate wasteful practices through process improvements.
• Maintain professional appearance per dress code.
• Other duties as assigned.
