Job summary

Safeway in Mill Valley, CA seeks a Third Person in Charge to oversee store operations when the Store Director and ASD are unavailable. The role includes training new employees, coordinating hiring, and guiding merchandising execution to maintain strong store performance.

You will manage closing shifts, lead the late shift, supervise staff, and address customer concerns while maintaining safety and service standards.

Qualifications

• Education level required: High School Diploma (or equivalent).
• Four or more years of retail experience required; grocery experience preferred.
• Proficient customer service and supervisory abilities; strong written and oral communication.
• Ability to work flexible hours; stand/walk long periods; lead teams.

Responsibilities

• Works primarily closing shifts to run total store operations in absence of SD/ASD.
• Oversees center of store operations with ASD; covers days off.
• Manages total store operations, supervise employees, handle customer complaints.
• Initiates corrective action when needed.
• Liaises between store leadership and late shift operations.
• Develops marketing and merchandising plans with Head Clerks/PICs.
• Trains Head Clerks for possible promotion.
• Ensures safety culture and training for new hires.
• Assesses hiring needs and coordinates interviews with recruiters.
• Ensures onboarding paperwork and mandatory training.
