Job summary

Dollar General in Springfield, IL seeks a Store Manager Candidate who will support the Store Manager in implementing store processes, supervising staff, managing inventory, stocking, and receiving. This role is designed to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager position for a limited period.

The duties include merchandising, cashier controls, opening/closing, and ensuring a safe, well-organized store that meets in-stock targets and delivers great customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Capable of cash handling and loss prevention practices.
• Ability to learn and use IBM cash register and reporting functions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred in some locations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by facilitating and/or participating in staging, stocking and storage of merchandise; ensure merchandise is presented per established practices and manager direction; utilize fixtures, signing and pricing.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management (including damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork and controls); prepare and conduct inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Act as a role model by following company procedures and policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
• Assist in maintaining financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment.
• Operate store in store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation on time.
