Books-A-Million in Newark, DE is seeking an Assistant General Manager for a leadership role at a 2nd & Charles store. You’ll serve as Manager On Duty, coach the team, and learn all aspects of store operations alongside the General Manager, driving customer satisfaction and results every day.

You’ll own sales floor leadership, associate development, merchandising, and daily operations while ensuring a welcoming environment for customers and community partners.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in a supervisor role
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills
• Successful completion of all required background screenings
• College degree in business preferred
• Comfort with technology and transactions
• Experience in book, specialty, or media retail
• Love of books, reading, and pop culture
• Ownership mindset and accountability
• Commitment to community and teamwork

Responsibilities

• Lead the store as Manager On Duty and drive the customer experience.
• Coach the Associates and grow talent across the shift.
• Ensure safe, secure operations and adherence to policies.
• Partner with the GM to recruit, train, and develop staff.
• Maintain merchandising standards and store cleanliness.
• Plan schedules and daily agendas to meet business needs.
• Synchronize daily briefings and weekly meetings for goal alignment
• Handle behind-the-scenes tasks like deposits and cash handling
