Job summary

Books-A-Million is seeking an Assistant General Manager to lead day-to-day store operations, report to the General Manager, and drive sales and customer service excellence. You will oversee scheduling, training, and performance of the store team in collaboration with the management group.

The role emphasizes leadership, accountability, and the ability to manage budgets and procedures while maintaining store standards and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Previous experience in a supervisor role.
• Ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.
• Proficient with computer and cash register operations.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store with policy adherence.
• Operates the store as the Manager On Duty with the management team.
• Maintains store security as a key-holding manager.
• Ensures high levels of customer service and resolves complaints.
• Maintains merchandising, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
• Assists General Manager with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new talent.
• Trains and develops Associates and Leads.
• Facilitates communication through daily briefings and meetings.
• Coordinates performance discussions with the General Manager.
• Drops off bank deposits and handles change orders as needed.
• Creates schedules and daily agendas to meet business needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
