Job summary

Meijer is seeking interns for its Store Leadership Internship in Michigan to build foundational retail knowledge and develop leadership capabilities through rotations and real project exposure.

Participants will interact with senior leaders, deliver final presentations, and explore opportunities for advancement toward store leadership roles, including potential progression to a Store Director position within several years.

Qualifications

• The Meijer Store Leadership Internship is an experiential program designed for students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program, who are considering future careers in this exciting field
• Ability to work flexible shifts to gain exposure to the full operation of the store
• Prior experience in retail is preferred, but not required
• Past leadership responsibilities in work or extracurricular activities strongly preferred
• Passion for retail and a desire to enter a career in store leadership
• Drive for results - has focus on the bottom line
• Customer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers
• Relationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and supervises team members in the day-to-day operations within various departments of the store.
• Serves as the mentor and coach for all team members.
• Implements strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales while ensuring customer needs are met and service is quick and efficient.
• Maintains store appearance with a focus on prime shopping hours, product presentation and company standards.
• Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
• Support department in achieving sales, maintaining shrink, and managing the P&L.
• Model exceptional, fast and friendly customer service.
• Mentor and coach team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the area is maintained to Meijer standards.
• Mentor and coach new team members to the department and help ensure they are onboarded and completing required training.
• Spend majority of time within the store communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered.
• Promote a safe work environment.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
