Job summary

Books-A-Million is hiring an Assistant General Manager to lead day-to-day store operations as Manager On Duty, partnering with the management team to maximize sales and customer service. The role emphasizes effective leadership, staff development, and adherence to company policies across all store activities.

You will oversee security, merchandising, scheduling, and talent onboarding, while coaching Associates and Leads to deliver exceptional service and store performance.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
• Previous experience in a supervisor role
• Strong customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills
• Successful completion of all required background screenings

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store in accordance with policies
• Operates the store as the Manager On Duty in conjunction with the management team
• Maintains store security as a key-holding manager
• Ensures highest level of customer service and handles complaints
• Maintains merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency
• Assists General Manager with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new talent
• Trains and develops Associates and Leads
• Communicates effectively through daily briefings and meetings
• Consults with the General Manager on associate performance
• Drops off bank deposits and handles cash as needed
• Picks up café/grocery supplies as needed
• Creates schedules and daily agendas to match business needs
• Performs other duties as assigned
