Job summary

Books-A-Million in Virginia seeks an Assistant General Manager to lead daily store operations and act as Manager On Duty with the management team. You will drive sales, customer service, training, and accountability across the store while aligning with company policies and budget goals.

You will interview, hire, and onboard talent, schedule staff, and manage security and merchandising to ensure a positive shopping experience. This is a full-time, on-site role in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• Experience in a supervisor role.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store in adherence to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Operates the store as the Manager On Duty in conjunction with the management team.
• Maintains the physical security of the store and acts as a key-holding manager.
• Ensures highest level of customer service and resolves complaints satisfactorily.
• Maintains category merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency.
• Assists General Manager with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new talent.
• Trains and develops Associates and Leads.
• Facilitates effective communication among staff through briefings and meetings.
• Advises on associate performance with the General Manager.
• Drops bank deposits and handles cash as needed.
