Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Orlando, FL seeks a System Safety Engineer to lead hazard analyses, define safety controls, and produce certification documentation for warfighter systems. You will collaborate with systems and software engineers, mentor junior staff, and flow safety requirements to suppliers while supporting customer and test ranges.

The role requires MIL-STD-882 experience, DoD safety guidelines, and strong communication skills. Must be a U.S. citizen able to obtain a secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited engineering discipline.
• Experience implementing a System Safety Program per MIL-STD-882.
• Developing and evaluating system safety requirements.
• Familiar with Software Safety per AOP-52 and DoD guidelines.
• Proficient knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and analyses.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to present to large groups.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead hazard-analysis activities and define safety controls.
• Produce technical safety documentation for certification.
• Collaborate with systems and software engineers on architecture and use-cases.
• Generate software safety analyses and mentor junior safety engineers.
• Flow down system safety requirements to suppliers and verify design implementation.
• Assist in requirements development and verification.
• Review specifications and design changes for safety impacts.
• Support customer and test/operational range requirements.
• Develop testing activities to ensure safety requirements are satisfied.
• Prepare documentation and materials for safety board meetings.
• Participate in accident investigations and contribute to root cause analysis.
