Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking a System Safety Engineer for the Hardware Engineering team at MFC in Dallas, TX. You will lead safety analyses across the product line, partnering with systems, software, and training engineers, and mentor junior engineers.

You will perform hazard analyses, develop safety documentation, and recommend safety features while supporting design reviews and customer briefings. This role requires a DoD Secret clearance eligibility and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college.
• Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program IAW MIL-STD-882.
• Developing and evaluating system safety requirements.
• Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines.
• Proficient knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hazard analyses and safety assessments in full compliance with MIL-STD-882 and contractual requirements.
• Develop and maintain safety documentation, reports, and deliverables for customers and government stakeholders.
• Recommend safety-focused design features, controls, training, and procedures that mitigate hazards.
• Perform software safety analyses, create safety cases, and support verification & validation activities.
• Collaborate with systems and software engineering to define safe architectures, use-cases, and operational concepts.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to early-career System Safety Engineers.
• Act as SME during design reviews, risk assessments, and customer briefings.
• Monitor emerging safety standards to keep the team at the forefront of safety engineering.
