Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - SRE to own programs spanning observability, production readiness, incident management, and chaos engineering. You will lead cross-domain initiatives, design scalable reliability platforms, and partner with engineering directors to align risk and automation with business goals.

You will mentor SSE/SE engineers, set standards, and drive organizational change to reduce toil and improve availability across thousands of locations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SRE, platform engineering, or production systems engineering with demonstrated program-level ownership.
• End-to-end ownership of at least one major SRE program at organizational scale.
• LLM integration for operational use cases (alert summarization, runbook generation, incident triage) – core program deliverable.
• Fleet-scale deployment reliability: design progressive rollout strategies for edge/node deployments.
• Organizational change management at program scale.
• Financial literacy for SRE programs: quantify ROI and communicate business value.
• TIC (Technical Incident Commander) certification or equivalent.
• Deep observability platform expertise including Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, or Datadog.

Responsibilities

• Own the SRE Developer Platform: tooling, onboarding kits, observability templates, and self-service reliability APIs.
• Define and govern deployment and incident management practices, CI/CD gates, and runbooks.
• Lead end-to-end program ownership for major SRE initiatives (observability, PRR, chaos engineering).
• Design and operationalize a tiered incident response model and incident command structures.
• Develop GameDay exercises and measure organizational readiness and improvements.
• Drive DORA metrics through improved deployment, MTTR, and change failure rate reporting.
