Job summary

Fivetran is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Metadata team to own the architecture of key subsystems and lead cross-engineer initiatives.

You will design complex distributed systems, mentor engineers, and drive quality across the SDLC, including on-call reliability, testing strategies, and integration with AI tooling and agents to improve development velocity. This is a fully remote role with a competitive USD compensation range.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and proven leadership of complex, team-scope work.
• Experience designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
• Excellent design and architecture judgment with trade-offs.
• Proven code quality, testing and sprint delivery.
• Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and reliability.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Hands-on with AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with AI code assistants and coding agents.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services.
• Design and develop architecture of new subsystems end-to-end.
• Use AI tooling and agents across SDLC artifacts.
• Review and approve technical designs and identify deficiencies.
• Drive technical initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Set and uphold design, architecture, and coding best practices.
• Coach and mentor engineers to improve code quality.
• Write technical specs and document components.
• Fix and optimize parts of the codebase and improve reliability.
• Participate in the on-call rotation.
