Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Metadata team’s data pipeline and discoverable data layer. You will shape architecture for the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services, guiding multiple engineers while raising the bar on design and quality.

You’ll own major subsystems, coach engineers, and help scale a critical part of our modern data stack. This role is remote with occasional visits to the Denver, CA office.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion.
• Experience designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
• Excellent design and architecture judgment; identifies design flaws and trade-offs.
• Writes exemplary, well-tested code and reliably estimates and delivers sprint to sprint.
• Strong track record of raising quality through code review and coaching peers.
• Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and owning operational health — incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, or C#; hands-on cloud and containerization (AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with AI code assistants and coding agents for SDLC artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services.
• Architect and own subsystems end-to-end, coordinating multiple engineers.
• Apply AI tooling to SDLC artifacts and improve development processes.
• Review technical designs to ensure high quality and pre-ship readiness.
• Drive technical initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Enforce design and coding best practices and mentor team members.
• Write and document technical specs and reusable components.
• Improve reliability and performance of owned services and participate in on‑call rotations.
