Job summary

Fivetran in Oakland is seeking a senior software engineer to join the Metadata team, owning the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services. You will design and deliver end-to-end features across high-throughput APIs and data models, collaborating with product, QE, and peers to ensure scalable, reliable systems.

Qualifications

• Strong background in designing and building backend services.
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud concepts.
• Proven ability to write well-structured, performant, well-tested code.
• Ability to lead feature-level software and design work, explaining trade-offs.
• Proficiency with modern backend languages and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement features and performance improvements across the Metadata team's services—discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
• Develop, maintain, and test high-quality, maintainable code; optimize critical paths for performance.
• Write technical designs for feature-level work and explain trade-offs.
• Participate in design reviews and PRs, providing constructive feedback.
• Improve test coverage with unit tests and reduce technical debt.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to post-mortems and mitigations.
• Break features into tasks; manage project plans and contribute to sprint planning.
• Collaborate with product managers, QE, customer support to deliver high-quality products.
