Job summary

Fivetran, a data infrastructure leader, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the metadata team responsible for the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services. This full-time, remote position emphasizes architectural leadership, mentoring, and delivering complex subsystems.

You will work with Python, GraphQL, Postgres, Snowflake, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and GCP while shaping the technical direction and code quality across the team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with leadership on complex projects.
• Strong experience in distributed, cloud-based systems and subsystems.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
• Excellent design judgment; capable of architectural trade-offs.
• Proven record of writing well-tested, maintainable code and estimating work.
• Experience partnering with QE and owning operational health targets.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Python, Java, C++, or C#).
• Hands-on with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and container tech (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Familiar with AI assistants to generate and review SDLC artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services, coordinating development across multiple engineers
• Architect new subsystems end-to-end and own team-level subsystems
• Use AI tooling across SDLC artifacts including PRDs, post-mortems, and test plans
• Review designs to ensure high quality and preempt defects before shipping
• Drive initiatives across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history
• Set and uphold design, architecture, and coding best practices
• Coach engineers to improve code quality and productivity
• Write technical specs and document reusable components
• Fix critical code paths and improve reliability and performance
• Participate periodically in on-call rotation
