Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Trust and Safety Foundations group to shape technical strategy and lead critical initiatives. You will own complex systems, drive reliability, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure scalable, compliant risk infrastructure.

You will deliver high-quality code, mentor peers, and advocate for robust design standards while operating in a remote-first environment that supports work-life balance and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

8+ years of backend design, development and launch experience.
Experience delivering major features and critical system components.
Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear technical approaches.
Strong collaboration with product, design and analytics.

Responsibilities

Set technical strategy for the team over a year and align with business needs.
Lead complex, high-impact initiatives across systems and stakeholders.
Ensure reliability, monitoring, on-call readiness and operational excellence.
Mentor engineers and raise the bar on design, coding and reviews.
