Affirm is reinventing credit with an AI‑native engineering team building the bank behind affirm inc. We seek a Staff Software Engineer to own core bank surfaces and set technical direction across cloud, data, and operations.

This role requires handling high‑stakes systems with a startup‑like rigor inside a larger company. You’ll lead architecture, standards, and cross‑functional collaboration, ensuring compliance, auditability, and scalable reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff‑level credentials.
• Experience owning ambiguous, high‑stakes systems end‑to‑end through launch and operations.
• Comfortable owning ambiguity at large scale and prioritizing effectively.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to drive development velocity and quality.
• Experience setting technical direction and architectural strategy across multiple quarters.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for bank systems including cloud infra, data platform, and CI/CD.
• Own the hardest problems end‑to‑end and define clear runbooks and incident response.
• Raise engineering bar through code/design reviews and documentation.
• Ship AI‑first capabilities and push the team on AI‑driven improvements.
• Lead vendor evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight for third‑party platforms.
• Define cross‑boundaries integration with affirm inc and ensure regulatory separation.
