Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to be the technical anchor for a small, AI-native team responsible for banking infrastructure, data platform, and operational tooling.

You will set technical direction, own the hardest problems end-to-end, and push AI-leveraged solutions across design, runbooks, and operations while maintaining a tight integration boundary with affirm Inc.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and staff-level ownership of end-to-end systems.
• Ability to make architecture calls and set multi-quarter technical strategy across complex surfaces.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to improve code quality, velocity, and outcomes.
• Comfort with communicating strategy and decisions to executives and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Proven ability to mentor and raise the bar for engineers joining the team.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across the bank's systems including cloud, data platform, CI/CD, and integration boundaries.
• Own the hardest problems end-to-end and build well-defined systems with clear failure domains, monitoring, and runbooks.
• Lead code review, design review, and maintain examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and push the team to leverage AI in engineering workflows.
• Lead vendor evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight of third‑party platforms.
