Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small AI-native team. You’ll define architecture, establish standards, and own the hardest problems from design through operations within a bank- chartered system.

You’ll lead across cloud infra, data platforms, and third-party integrations, ensuring reliability, compliance, and audit readiness while mentoring peers and contributing to hiring.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with senior contributor capabilities.
• Ability to own ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end.
• Fluent with AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication for executives and auditors.

Responsibilities

• Set the bank's system technical direction across cloud, data, and CI/CD.
• Own the most critical, highest-stakes components and incident response.
• Establish patterns and standards for a small, high-skill team to scale impact.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and drive operator tooling and runbooks.
