Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small, AI-native team that runs the bank infrastructure. You will own the most challenging components across cloud, data, and integration with affirm Inc, shaping architecture and standards for a system that supports a real bank charter.

You will lead technical direction, review patterns, and push AI-enabled workflows as a multiplier for code quality and velocity, while partnering with Legal, Compliance, and Risk to maintain audit-readiness.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level, hands-on ownership of high-stakes systems.
• Experience owning ambiguity at scale and delivering end-to-end solutions.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
• Strong understanding of public cloud infrastructure (AWS) and IaC (Terraform).
• Experience in regulated environments with examiners and audits.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for bank systems including cloud, data platform, CI/CD, and integration patterns.
• Own the most critical, high-stakes components end-to-end and lead incident response.
• Uphold code quality and design reviews, and mentor engineers to raise the team bar.
• Lead vendor selection, integration, and ongoing oversight of third‑party platforms.
• Define integration boundaries with affirm Inc and ensure regulatory separation is preserved.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to bake compliance into the product.
