Job summary

Affirm, remote-first, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor AI-native banking systems including vendor integrations, data platform, and operational tooling. You will define architecture, set technical direction, and own the hardest problems end-to-end with direct exposure to leadership.

You will lead a small team, drive design reviews, and push AI-enabled workflows as a core capability of engineering, partnering with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit from day one.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level ownership of high-stakes systems.
• Ability to define architecture and multi-quarter technical strategy across large surfaces.
• Experience with public cloud infrastructure, IaC, and data platforms; preferred AWS/Snowflake familiarity.
• Experience selecting, integrating, and operating third-party platforms.
• Strong communication to executives, boards, Compliance, and Risk.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for bank systems including cloud, data platform, and CI/CD.
• Design, build, integrate, and operate high-stakes components end-to-end and own incident response.
• Lead code/design reviews and documentation standards for a small, AI-native team.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and leverage AI tools to increase velocity and quality.
• Lead vendor selection, integration, and ongoing oversight of third-party platforms.
• Define integration boundaries between the bank and Affirm Inc and ensure regulatory separation.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to bake compliance into the product.
