Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small, AI-native team responsible for vendor-integrated banking infrastructure, data platform, and tooling. You set the technical direction, own the hardest systems end-to-end, and guide architecture and standards that the rest of the team implements.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with staff-level ownership of high-stakes systems.
• Ability to set technical direction and drive architecture across domains.
• Experience with AI-enabled development and regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive long-term technical strategy for bank-related systems across cloud, data, and integration surfaces.
• Own design, integration, and operation of critical stack components with clear failure domains and runbooks.
• Lead by example in code reviews, design reviews, and documentation to raise the bar for a small team.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Internal Audit to bake compliance into product design from day one.
• Ensure reliability, observability, and disaster-recovery practices for standalone operation and audit readiness.
