Job summary

ModMed, headquartered in Boca Raton, FL, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor our engineering org. You will drive architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and lead the technical direction of core platforms.

This IC role requires mentoring seniors and partnering with Product and Engineering leadership to scale AI-driven healthcare solutions. You will act as the Tech Lead of Tech Leads, solving distributed system challenges while ensuring scalability, security, and performance

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years operating at a Senior, Lead, or Staff level.
• Deep expertise in Java (8/11/17+) including memory management, concurrency, and JVM tuning.
• Expert-level knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security.
• Extensive experience designing systems on AWS including ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, RDS, DynamoDB.
• Proven track record architecting distributed systems and RESTful/gRPC APIs for high throughput.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and mentoring across squads.
• Proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL modeling.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Technical Strategy & Architecture: Design and architect healthcare applications using Java (Spring Boot) and AWS.
• Hands-on Engineering: 40-50% coding; write critical path code, POCs, review complex PRs.
• Tech Leadership: Define coding standards, design patterns, and quality gates; lead architecture reviews.
• Mentorship: Elevate team through code reviews and design discussions.
• Operational Excellence: Own reliability, observability, and performance of production systems (CI/CD, monitoring).
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Translate technical concepts into business value with Product Managers.
• Architect AI Training & Execution Harnesses: Build scalable AI evaluation pipelines and domain-specific AI tools.
• Design AI Skills: Create structured toolsets, prompts, and APIs for AI models.
