Job summary

ModMed is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to act as a technical anchor across our engineering organization. You will drive architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and lead the technical direction of core platforms while mentoring engineers and collaborating with Product and Leadership.

You will occasionally code (40–50%), design scalable systems, and champion DevOps, observability, and security.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years operating at a Senior, Lead, or Staff level.
• Deep expertise in Java (8/11/17+), including memory management and concurrency.
• Expert-level Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Spring Security knowledge.
• Extensive AWS experience: ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, RDS, DynamoDB.
• Proven ability to architect distributed systems and RESTful/gRPC APIs.
• Proficient in Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL modeling.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead across multiple squads.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect healthcare applications using Java/Spring on AWS; be the go‑to for the hardest technical challenges.
• Stay hands-on (40–50% coding) with critical path code, POCs, and complex PR reviews.
• Define and enforce coding standards, patterns, and quality gates; lead architecture reviews.
• Mentor Senior and Mid‑level engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Own reliability, observability, and performance of production systems (CI/CD, monitoring).
• Translate technical concepts into business value for stakeholders alongside Product Managers.
• Architect AI training harnesses and evaluation pipelines to fine‑tune and deploy domain‑specific models.
• Systematize AI skills into reusable tools, prompts, and APIs.
