Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team to shape the systems powering post-checkout operations—orders, captures, refunds, and settlement—and to drive the technical strategy that keeps the platform reliable and scalable for merchants and consumers.

You will mentor engineers, own technical direction, and collaborate across product, design, and analytics while emphasizing reliability, testing, and clear API boundaries.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems.
• Strong focus on API design, reliability, and failure handling.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long timeline and align with business goals.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and trade-offs are understood.
• Own operations and availability with monitoring, on-call readiness, and runbooks.
