Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team, you’ll shape the systems powering orders, captures, refunds, and settlement.

You’ll lead technical direction for high‑impact projects, mentor engineers, and own decisions affecting the platform for years.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python or Kotlin).
• Distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Strong API design, reliability, consistency and failure-mode handling.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year‑long horizon.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and trade‑offs.
• Own monitoring, incident response, runbooks and availability of services.
• Drive code quality and architectural standards beyond your team.
