Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team to shape the systems that power every post-checkout purchase—orders, captures, refunds, and settlement. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and own decisions that matter for years.

You’ll design highly available backend services in Python or Kotlin, collaborate with product management, design and analytics to ensure reliability, scalability and clear API boundaries across our engineering stack.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Extensive track record building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Strong focus on API boundaries, reliability, idempotency and failure modes in payments/commerce domains.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon and align with critical business projects.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and informed trade-offs.
• Define and advocate scalable technical solutions and operational processes for the team.
• Own the team’s operations and availability with monitoring, runbooks and on-call practices.
• Establish code review and design standards and mentor others to raise overall quality.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
