Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform, you’ll shape systems powering affirm purchases after checkout — orders, captures, refunds, and settlement — and drive a scalable, reliable platform at pace.

You’ll lead a senior team, set technical direction, and mentor engineers while ensuring high availability and clear API boundaries.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems and APIs.
• Background in payments, commerce, or financial domains is a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration across product, design and analytics teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product lifecycle with product management, design & analytics.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and on-call readiness, monitoring, playbooks and testing.
• Set code review and design standards and mentor teammates.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
