CVS Health Digital is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer with hands-on backend and platform experience to design and operate scalable microservices for healthcare data exchange. You will work with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and event-driven patterns in cloud-native environments, partnering with security, architecture, and DevOps to deliver reliable services for HIPAA-compliant health systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years backend with Java/JEE, Spring Boot and Node.js.
• Experience building RESTful microservices and distributed systems.
• 3+ years deploying services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with cloud-native patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
• Strong REST API design and JSON data modeling.
• CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads (Docker; Kubernetes).
• Security fundamentals including OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, secrets management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices with Java/JEE and Spring Boot.
• Implement event-driven patterns using Apache Kafka.
• Model and exchange data using JSON with validation and versioning.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with testing and progressive delivery.
• Collaborate with Security and DevOps to integrate security controls.
• Apply 12‑factor app principles and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Integrate services with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, CCD/C-CDA).
• Ensure HIPAA and data governance compliance for secure platforms.
• Own production readiness: availability, latency, throughput, cost.
• Diagnose production issues; drive reliability improvements (SLIs/SLOs).
• Implement observability (logging, metrics, tracing) for monitoring.
• Participate in architecture reviews and mentor junior engineers.
