Job summary

CVS Health Digital is hiring a Staff Software Development Engineer to design and deliver scalable backend microservices that power healthcare data exchange in a regulated environment.

You will work with product, architecture, security, and DevOps teams to build secure, compliant services using Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs and Kafka, operating in cloud-native ecosystems and delivering reliable services at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development
• 5+ years backend with Java/JEE, Spring Boot and Nodejs+ experience building RESTful microservices
• 3+ years deploying and operating services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using cloud-native patterns
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms
• Strong understanding of REST API design, JSON data modeling, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads (Docker; Kubernetes preferred)
• Solid grasp of security fundamentals (OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, secrets management)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java/JEE and Spring Boot exposing secure RESTful APIs
• Implement event-driven patterns using Apache Kafka with schema evolution and partitioning
• Model and exchange data using JSON with robust validation and backward compatibility
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with testing, static analysis, and progressive delivery
• Partner with Security and DevOps to integrate automated security controls
• Work with EHR standards (HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, CCD/C-CDA) and regulated data exchange formats
• Ensure HIPAA compliance, data governance, and platform security requirements
• Own production readiness: availability, latency, throughput, and cost efficiency
• Diagnose issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive reliability improvements
• Implement observability with logging, metrics, and tracing; participate in reviews
