CVS Health is hiring a Staff Software Development Engineer to design and deliver scalable microservices for healthcare data exchange. You will work with product, architecture, security, and DevOps teams to build secure, compliant backend services in cloud-native environments.

The role emphasizes Java/Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems with a focus on production readiness, observability, and data standards such as FHIR/HL7. A strong healthcare/domain background is valued.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building RESTful microservices and distributed systems.
• 3+ years deploying services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
• Strong understanding of REST API design, JSON data modeling, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Experience operating production services in cloud environments, preferably GCP.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java/JEE and Spring Boot, exposing secure RESTful APIs.
• Model and exchange data using JSON; Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines including tests and artifact promotion.
• Partner with Security and DevOps to integrate automated security controls.
• Apply 12-factor app principles and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Integrate backend services with EHR systems and healthcare data standards.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance, data governance, and platform security.
• Own production readiness: availability, latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.
• Perform root cause analysis and drive reliability improvements.
• Implement observability (logging, metrics, tracing) for monitoring and incident response.
