Job summary

CVS Health is hiring a Staff Software Development Engineer to design and deliver secure backend microservices for healthcare data exchange. You will work with Java/JEE, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs, operating in cloud-native environments and regulated domains.

You will partner with product, architecture, security, and DevOps teams to ensure reliability, observability, and compliance across high-volume services, including HIPAA governance and data security.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years backend experience with Java/JEE, Spring Boot and Node.js.
• 3+ years deploying and operating services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
• StrongREST API design, JSON data modeling, and OpenAPI/Swagger docs.
• CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads (Docker).
• Familiarity with healthcare, regulated systems, or large-scale data integration.
• Cloud certification preferred (GCP/AWS).
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience).

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver highly available, secure microservices for healthcare data exchange.
• Develop backend microservices with Java/JEE and Spring Boot exposing RESTful APIs.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and testing strategies.
• Collaborate with Security and DevOps to integrate automated controls.
• Apply 12‑factor app principles, IaC, and configuration management best practices.
• Integrate services with EHR systems and healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR).
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and data governance.
• Own production readiness: availability, latency, throughput, cost efficiency.
• Lead root cause analysis and reliability improvements.
• Implement observability through logging, metrics, and tracing.
