Job summary

Covenant House Texas is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage accounts payable, receivable, grant billing, and general accounting tasks in a small office setting. The role requires accuracy in data entry, ledger reconciliation, and timely processing of vendor payments, reimbursements, and grant-related entries.

The staff accountant will maintain vendor files, support audits, and assist with month-end and year-end close as part of our accounting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
• 2 years experience in full-cycle accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliation.
• Good computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word; experience in ERP systems, Lawson preferred.
• Good organizational skills.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
• Ability to read written materials and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant billing, and general accounting support.
• Enter vendor invoices and check requests; maintain logs and vendor files.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare monthly statements.
• Prepare monthly grant billing, reporting, and reconciliation.
• Support annual audits and site monitoring as required by grants.
• Deposit donation checks and manage related record keeping.
• Manage petty cash and journal entries; monitor payments and reconcile bus passes.
